Upgraded ablution facilities

NAM-PLACE recently upgraded the ablution facilities at the 2x4 parking at the entrance to the Sossusvlei Dunes in the Namib Naukluft Park. Six new temporary toilets were built to serve the needs of the high number of visitors to the area, whilst the Ministry conducts a feasibility study for permanent structures.

The Namib Sand Sea was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List on Friday 21st June 2013.

The Namib Sand Sea World Heritage Site falls entirely within the Greater Sossusvlei-Namib Landscape. It is the only coastal desert in the world that includes extensive dune fields influenced by fog. Namibia and the NamibRand Nature Reserve are at the forefront of conservation through the innovative and ground breaking work that is being done with regard to large landscape conservation. On 16 March 2013, landowners and custodians of properties that make up the Greater Sossusvlei-Namib Landscape signed a constitution that legalises this representative body and approved the management plan that will guide the work and outputs of this co-management association.
