New access bridge into Nkasa Rupara National Park officially handed over

The new access bridge into Nkasa Rupara National Park under construction

A new access bridge into Nkasa Rupara National Park was officially handed over on the 29th of March 2014 by the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Hon Uahekua Herunga.

The bridge will improve access to Nkasa Rupara National Park during the rainy or flooding season or when the water level rises. The bridge was constructed with funding from the NAMPLACE project and the Game Products Trust Fund: NAMPLACE paid for supervision of the bridge while GPTF paid for actual construction of the bridge.

The bridge is expected to improve management effectiveness of the park and Wuparo Conservancy as many MET staff have previously experienced difficulties in accessing the park to implement management programmes. It is also expected to increase the number of visitors to the park, the community campsite adjacent to the park and Nkasa Lupara tented lodge, hence also generating increased revenue to the MET through park fees, the lodge and the campsite.
