A new access bridge into Nkasa Rupara National Park was officially handed over on the 29th of March 2014 by the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Hon Uahekua Herunga.

The bridge will improve access to Nkasa Rupara National Park during the rainy or flooding season or when the water level rises. The Namib Sand Sea was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List on Friday 21st June 2013.

The Namib Sand Sea is the only coastal desert in the world that includes extensive dune fields influenced by fog. Namibia and the NamibRand Nature Reserve are at the forefront of conservation through the innovative and ground breaking work that is being done with regard to large landscape conservation. On 16 March 2013, landowners and custodians of properties that make up the Greater Sossusvlei-Namib Landscape signed a constitution that legalises this representative body and approved the management plan that will guide the work and outputs of this co-management association.
