Threats to the environment

The area is under pressure from a range of human impacts, especially mining, overgrazing, illegal collection of fauna and flora, and anthropogenic climate change.

Many of the endemic species of plants are considered endangered, largely because they occupy very small ranges and are threatened by overgrazing, mining and illlegal harvesting. In some areas, invasive aliens are problematic.

The Landscape's Co-management and Development Plan addresses many of these issues.
