The annual, 90 km Fish River Canyon clean-up was conducted during the week of 25 – 30 September 2017. The Gondwana Canyon Park team participated in the event organized by our MET Parks colleagues. Three staff members from Gondwana Canyon Park joined in the 90km clean-up hike. The team reported that although the hike was quit physically demanding due to the collected rubbish that had to be carried along their trek, the experience was fun, adventurous and fulfilling.

Successful clean-up within the Greater Fish River Landscape

Gondwana Canyon Park, together with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, initiated a successful joint venture to clean-up the public roads within the Greater Fish River Landscape.

The clean-up was done by staff from the two organisations and covered close to 400km of road between Naute Dam to Aussenkehr. The removed rubbish consisted mostly bottles, tyres, plastic bottles, cans, papers, plastic bags and car parts.

Greater Fish River Canyon Landscape (GFRCL), in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, will conduct the periodic, annual aerial game count on Friday 21st August. The exercise is expected to continue until the end of September 2015. Take note that there will be an aircraft flying in rounds at the height of about 300m above the ground taking photographs. These photographs will be analysed, in order to obtain estimates of game numbers across the landscape

The Khomas Hochland Hiking Trail launch event on12th June 2015 was a success and the venture has been welcome by many who would like to use the facility as soon as possible.

The project of developing a hiking trail of international standards, started almost a year ago, has finally come to a close.
